SANDÍA FASHION, A HEALTH BRAND

Fruit is a natural source of health.  According to the recommendations provided in the latest report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) promoting fruit and vegetable consumption around the world, a balanced diet should include between 2 and 3 medium-sized pieces of fruit a day, to be complemented with two portions of vegetables in the two main meals.

Our seedless watermelon, a source of sabor saludable (healthy flavour) is the result of combining Grupo AGF’s desire to get back that taste of yesteryears of the watermelons we savoured in our Grandmothers’ houses, with the properties of this fruit, which is a leader in Lycopene and Citrulline.

That is why at Sandía Fashion we have created our “Sabor Saludable” stamp.  A stamp that now appears on every single one of our products alongside Fashion’s characteristic heart label, which reinforces our watermelon’s commitment to health.

With this stamp, Sandía Fashion aims to dispel false myths and encourage consumption on the premise that healthy things can also taste good, and all our producers work day in day out for this to be the case.

What’s more, Sandía Fashion is a product that can be consumed practically all-year-round, because its production season is over 8 months, from February to October.

This is why Sandía Fashion has become a consumer brand that is recognised by customers and respected by all channels, from wholesale and retail markets to large-scale distribution.

THE PROPERTIES OF WATERMELON

Watermelon stands out from the rest of the fruits in health benefits as it is the most important natural source of water (it contains around 91%), Lycopene (2.3 – 7.2 mg/100g p.f.) and L-Citrulline (0.7 – 6 g/Kg p.f.)

Hydration:

Sandía Fashion is deliciously hydrating. The watermelon has a high water content (91%) and it is ideal for keeping hydrated in the summer or after sports activity due to its diuretic effect and its electrolyte content (Na, K, Mg, P and Fe).  Drinking water regularly helps to better maintain normal physical and cognitive functioning and is the basis for vital balance in the body.

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C helps the immune system to function better and protects cells from oxidative damage, as well as helping to reduce tiredness and physical fatigue.

Potassium:

Potassium is an essential macronutrient that helps us to maintain the balance of water in our bodies and helps to maintain normal blood pressure, as well as normal functioning of the nervous system and the muscles.

Fibre:

Sandía Fashion, the best seedless watermelon, is high in fibre, which makes it a delicious way to look after yourself, a purifying food that facilitates intestinal transit, looks after gut flora and, thanks to its high alkalizing abilities, it facilitates the elimination of harmful acids from the body.

A healthy food:

It is a healthy food ideal for children and older people as, as well as its high water and low-calorie content, it provides the diet with calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron and vitamins C, A, B1, B2 and B6, among other beneficial elements.

LEADING FRUIT IN LYCOPENE AND CITRULLINE

Lycopene is a carotenoid with high antioxidising abilities, as it has an antioxidising ability twice as high as that of beta-carotenes, and its health benefits come from Lycopene’s ability to remove reactive oxygen species (free radicals).

Several scientific and epidemiological studies support the beneficial properties of Lycopene for health and directly relate the importance of including this element in the diet to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and the decreased probability of developing carcinogenic processes.

Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid, metabolic precursor of Arginine (essential amino acid) which, according to the results of various and reliable lines of scientific research that have been published, it is involved in processes that reduce tiredness and speed up recovery following sports activity, improving performance and reducing the sportsman’s recovery time after high levels of exertion.

Including an extra amount of Citrulline in our diet could improve our performance in sports, firstly by preventing the build-up of lactate in the muscles (stiffness), and secondly by facilitating the elimination of excess ammonium ions resulting from the energetic use of proteins through the urea cycle.

Citrulline also has antioxidant properties and properties such as cardioprotection, as well as benefits against atherosclerosis and erectile dysfunction.
