A more sustainable home? We’ll tell you how!

We’re increasingly responsible for the planet we inhabit, but are we also responsible at home? Sustainability begins with raising children, showing them how to be respectful of Mother Earth.

So today we’re sharing 10 basic tips for the whole family to contribute to a more sustainable and fashionable home:

  1. Goodbye to paper napkins: we think they’re more practical, but the truth is we waste them unnecessarily when we can just clean ourselves with water after we’re done eating, or at least use cloth napkins, which, being larger, can be reused.
  2. Separating waste: This may be a task accomplished for many households, but we often don’t know how to separate it. Always remember: organic waste, plastic, cardboard, and glass.
  3. Since we’re talking about organic waste… one of the most beautiful decorations in any home is plants. How about feeding them with homemade compost? Eggshells, some fruit shells, and even olive oil can give your plants life.
  4. Low-energy light bulbs: Goodbye to yellow light, which also tires your eyes throughout the day and is usually more expensive than sustainable LEDs.
  5. Need a touch-up for your walls? Natural paints: This type, in addition to being non-toxic, doesn’t leave the typical strong odor for days. They’re made with water, lime, plaster, natural fats, and clay.
  6. Effective cleaning: Household cleaning products are often both toxic and environmentally harmful due to the chemicals they use, so we recommend a multipurpose cleaner with hot water, vinegar, and lemon juice.
  7. Double-pane windows: our allies for saving energy and money. We guarantee you won’t need as much heating in winter with this type of window.
  8. Power strips, your allies: Your computer, your mobile phone, your tablet… everything connected in a single device, and your electricity bill will thank you for it.
  9. Organic foods: Because the first home we should take care of is ourselves, and the more we consume products that go from the land to the consumer, the more your body will thank you.
  10. Creativity to the max: If 95% of things are made of plastic, why not make our own decorations with the plastic, cardboard, and glass we buy? A centerpiece made from a glass juice container looks really cool!
